About NATO.COM
AI-Powered Strategic Intelligence from Open Sources
What is NATO.COM?
NATO.COM (NATO Defense Intelligence) is an independent defense and security intelligence aggregator that uses artificial intelligence to collect, analyze, and summarize news from open sources around the world. We provide daily briefings on strategic defense and security topics.
We are not affiliated with NATO, any government, or military organization. NATO.COM is an independent research project focused on making defense news more accessible through AI-powered analysis.
Prediction Arena: AI Bias Research
The Prediction Arena is a separate experimental feature designed to study potential cultural bias in AI models. Unlike main content processing (US AI only), the Arena deliberately includes models from different origins to compare their perspectives on geopolitical events.
Arena Competitors (Research Only)
Western: LLaMA 3 (Meta), Gemma 2 (Google)
Eastern: Qwen 2.5 (Alibaba), DeepSeek R1 (DeepSeek)
Dual-Judge Scoring: Nomic Embed (USA) vs BGE-M3 (China/BAAI)
Foreign AI models are used solely for comparative research. The Arena does not influence main site content.
Data Sources
All content is aggregated from publicly available RSS feeds and news sources. We do not have access to classified or non-public information. Our sources include:
- NATO official news and press releases
- U.S. Department of Defense
- Defense ministry feeds from NATO member states
- Major defense and security media outlets
- Think tank publications
How It Works
NATO.COM operates through several automated processes:
- Feed Ingestion: Multiple times daily, we fetch and parse RSS feeds from configured sources.
- AI Analysis: Each article is analyzed by US-developed AI models to extract summaries, topics, countries, and relevance scores.
- Daily Briefing: High-importance articles are synthesized into a concise daily brief.
- GTI Calculation: The Global Tension Index is computed based on article volume, topic clustering, and semantic intensity.
Privacy
NATO.COM does not collect personal information from visitors. All AI processing happens locally on our servers. We do not use cookies for tracking or sell any user data.
Technology Stack
NATO.COM is built with:
- Backend: Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy
- AI Inference: Ollama (local inference engine)
- Database: PostgreSQL
- Frontend: Jinja2 templates, vanilla JavaScript
