The Global Tension Index (GTI) is an AI-powered metric that quantifies geopolitical tension based on defense and security news coverage. The index ranges from 0 (calm) to 100 (crisis) and is calculated daily from thousands of news articles.

The GTI analyzes multiple factors including article volume, topic clustering, source diversity, and semantic intensity to provide a real-time snapshot of global security conditions. Top drivers show which domains (conflicts, alliances, technology, etc.) are contributing most to current tension levels.

All calculations use US-developed AI models running locally. The GTI is for informational purposes only and does not represent official intelligence assessments.
